Whenever we go sailing, people ask us where the “Admiral” hails from.
I have to admit that, even when she tries, she cannot pass for a Viking but that Andean look is definitely a huge part of her charm and I sure fell for it many years ago.
Whenever we tell our friends that Mila is from Peru, we invariably get the reaction “I always wanted to go there”.
If you ever really wanted to visit this fascinating country, we invite you to register for one of our exciting trips. You will not regret it. Being married to Mila, I have had numerous occasions to visit Peru and even have hiked the Inca Trail twice. It truly is a unique destination to discover.
You will explore the city of Lima and its colonial attractions like the historic area of Barranco, the Central Plaza of Lima, the Government Palace and the Monastery of San Francisco.
We will fly to the highland city of Arequipa in the Andes which, in my opinion, is the most beautiful city in Peru with its colonial buildings made of white volcanic stone and its monastery of Santa Catalina, a city within the city; the Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, where Indians still live on their floating islands. While visiting this area, you will have ample opportunity to check out the colorful handicraft stalls and shops of the locals; Cusco, which, the Incas believed was the center or navel of the world. Discover the archeological Inca marvels of Sacsayhuaman (pronounce it “sexy woman” to make it easy), Kenko, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay. Wander through the streets of Cusco and marvel at the colonial cathedral built on top of the Inca’s holiest temple of the Coricancha.
From Cusco, you will travel to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, visit the colorful market of Pisac and the monumental city of Ollantaytambo from where we will take the train to Aguas Calientes in the valley below Machu Picchu. Our English-speaking guide will tell you everything you want to know about Machu Picchu, its discovery by Hiram Bingham and its history which is still shrouded in a lot of mystery. It was never found by the Spanish Conquistadores. At the end of the day, you will return to Cusco and fly back, the following morning, to Lima from where you can fly back home or spend a few more days in this fascinating city.
